At Holy Rood, the intent of our Science Curriculum is to provide the children with an engaging and immersive education that increases their knowledge and understanding about the world around them. Our curriculum has been designed to encourage our pupils’ curiosity about their daily experiences, and allows plenty of opportunity for scientific investigation to make accurate and analytical judgements.

We intend for the children to experience practical and hands-on Science through use of plentiful learning resources we have available to us, including our school’s vast woodland area.

Science Week

Each year, we hold a Science Week. During this week, children are able to enhance their Science skills, put their learning in to practise in creative ways and work with people in our local community to see Science in action in everyday life.

Last year, in her role as science lead, Mrs Cusack was very keen to spark a passion for science in all our children with visits from Mad Science, Joan of Arc High School science teachers and students, and other prominent figures in the scientific world. We also had the arrival of caterpillers and chicks to support our youngest children in understanding life cycles and a poster competition to add a competitive element to the week. Have a look at some of the pictures below...
